PASSPORT WILL BE REQUIRED FOR TRAVEL TO MEXICO
Each person, adults and children, must EACH have a valid passport for travel to Mexico. No longer will any other document be accepted for entry into Mexico or any other Caribbean Country. Children under 18 years of age traveling with only one of their natural parents must have the following: 1. Passport and a notarized letter from the non-accompanying parent stating his or her permission for the child to travel in Mexico. OR 2. Passport and a notarized copy of a sole custody agreement granting the traveling parent sole custody of the minor(s). OR 3. Passport and a notarized copy of the deceased parent’s death certificate. Children under 18 years of age traveling as guests of your family need a notarized letter giving permission to travel to Mexico signed by both parents and a passport. Non-U.S. citizens should contact the appropriate consular office for further information on their requirements. TOURIST CARDS Every one going to Mexico must complete a Mexican tourist card. You will be given cards by the airline and these must be filled out by each member of your party prior to arrival in Cancun. Upon arrival, when you go through Mexican Immigration Control, you will be given the pink copy of the tourist card. KEEP THIS COPY! YOU MUST HAVE IT TO LEAVE MEXICO. UPON ARRIVAL IN CANCUN Upon arrival in Cancun you must first go through Immigration control, where they will check your passport and give you a copy of your tourist card. KEEP THIS COPY OF YOUR TOURIST CARD IN A SAFE PLACE, AS YOU MUST HAVE IT TO LEAVE MEXICO. Then proceed to the baggage carousel and claim your baggage. Once you have all your bags, go through customs. There are carts available to help you move your baggage from the carousel to customs and outside of customs, there are porters who will take your luggage to the taxis or buses. The appropriate tip for baggage would be about $0.50 - $0.75 US per bag. HOW TO OBTAIN TRANSPORTATION TO YOUR HOTEL/VILLA If you are staying at the Royal Resorts, the best deal is to arrange your transfers prior to arrival through the Royal Resorts website via their company, Thomas Moore Travel. The service is good and the cost is $8.50. If you are staying at a different property or do not arrange in advance upon arrival at the airport, You have several options for transportation to your hotel. You may take a taxi or travel by bus. If you choose a taxi, agree on the fee prior to getting in the taxi. If you choose the buses, you must purchase transfer tickets in the same area as the car rental booths. Please note that there are two levels of service, last year priced about $8.50 & $15 per person. The higher priced transfer is via mini-bus which will leave quickly and take you to your hotel. The less expensive transfer is via a large bus, which will not leave until all seats are sold and all baggage loaded, which may be an additional 30 or more minutes. CURRENCY EXCHANGE Probably the best and most convenient method is to obtain cash at an ATM. You may exchange money at the airport in Cancun, however, unlike most foreign countries where the exchange rate is best in banks and much worse in hotels and stores, the exchange rate at the Royal Mayan and many stores, while worse than banks, it is a great deal more convenient. If there seems to be a "better" rate at certain places, make sure that they are not adding a service charge. ROYAL MAYAN/ROYAL CARIBBEAN/ROYAL ISLANDER BEACH CLUBS CHECK-IN The Royal Mayan, Royal Caribbean, and Royal Islander Beach Clubs are adjoining properties operated by the same company. Upon arrival at the club, you may check-in and go to your room or villa. Please note: the club runs on a "cashless" system. You will be given credit cards for each member of your party. These can be used at all three properties and are used to charge meals in the restaurants, drinks in the bars, and to purchase groceries, etc. ROYAL MAYAN / ROYAL CARIBBEAN / ROYAL ISLANDER CLUB SERVICES There will be orientation lectures on the services of the club and about Cancun on Sunday. Check at the front desk for times and places. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SUNDAY, there is daily maid service in each unit. At the Clubs, tennis courts and sailing (sunfish) are free. Tennis rackets, golf clubs, and snorkeling equipment is complementary from the sports desk, but if you intend to seriously pursue any sport such as golf or tennis you will be more satisfied if you bring your own equipment. Their snorkeling equipment has been fine, except they don't have enough sizes for small children. Be sure to check out your desired equipment from the sports desk early in the morning or the evening prior to the day of usage to assure availability. All sports services are on a first come, first served, space available basis. At least five restaurants, gift shops, convenience stores, tour desks, and car rental desks are all located at the Royal Mayan/Caribbean/Islander Complex. WELCOME RECEPTION Monday evening we will have a reception where refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Your entire party is welcome. This will be held from 5:15 - 6:30 PM at the Royal Mayan. OPTIONAL LOBSTER CRUISE We have reserved the ship Columbus for the "Lobster Cruise" again this year. This event will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday April 3th. This is one of the most popular attractions in Cancun with a lobster and steak barbeque on a beautiful reproduction of a Spanish Galleon sailing the lagoon at sundown. Last year's prices were $68.00 for adults and $34.00 for children (under 3 free). We expect the prices to be the same or only slightly higher for 2006. The price includes taxes and gratuity. If you desire a vegetarian dinner, tell us in Cancun 24 hours in advance. CARS AND TAXIS Rental cars are readily available, but most find that taxis are relatively inexpensive and convenient. There are published schedules of taxis fees; be sure that you look these over at the airport or at your accommodations. If any taxis driver tries to overcharge, state what the published price is and pay that amount. CANCUN AND WEATHER Cancun is an "L" shaped nine mile long island at the very tip of the Yucatan peninsula. The Caribbean ocean on one side and the Nichupte Lagoon on the other make it a lovely setting. At this time of year, sunshine and trade winds are the daily forecast. Temperatures will be in the 80’s, but the wind keeps you surprisingly comfortable. Be careful, the breeze fools you into forgetting how much sun (burn!) you are getting. THINGS TO DO Sunday and Wednesday are days free of seminar meetings, and many may wish to go sight-seeing. Many tours are available, the most popular are: (prices subject to change; children 12 and under are 1/2 price 1. Tulum (Mayan ruins) and Xelha (snorkeling) 7.5 hrs - $38.00 (lunch not included) 2. For those more inclined to remain in Cancun, there is plenty to do! The beach and water are among the prettiest in the world. At the Royal Mayan/Royal Caribbean/Royal Islander there are several large freshwater pools with swim-up bars, surrounded by the beautiful tropical grounds. Tennis, and sailing are available at no charge. Windsurfing and jet skiing are available at extra cost. EATING OUT There are many restaurants to choose from in Cancun including at least five at the Royal Mayan / Royal Caribbean / Royal Islander Complex. For those lovers of Mexican-American food, be aware that in Cancun you get "real" Mexican food, which usually means different flavoring, less cheese and less sauces than we’re used to in the States. Is the food safe to eat and the water safe to drink? Almost always, yes! However, to be sure, we take Pepto-Bismol QID and eat almost anything we want. (somewhat cautious with uncooked items) SHOPPING Available everywhere! There are several malls scattered through the resort zone. In the mall shops the prices are more fixed, while in shops outside the resort zone, bargaining is expected. Watch the quality of items as it can vary a great deal even in the same shop. |
